2023-24 LGC Leadership Series | What Will It Take to Close the Racial Wealth Gap?
Please join us for the sixth session of the 2023-24 LGC Leadership Series as we discuss how closing the racial wealth gap has broad societal implications. When individuals from all backgrounds have equal access to wealth creation opportunities, it fosters a more equitable society and dismantles the barriers that have historically hindered marginalized communities from achieving economic success. Our guest speakers will share strategies to disrupt the racial wealth gap and help grow a new generation of prosperity, from entrepreneurship and innovation to equal earnings, home ownership, ending discriminatory policies and practices, and access to affordable sources of capital.
This in-person panel event will be moderated by Andrea Sáenz (LGC Fellow since 2009 and Daniel Burnham Fellow), president and CEO of The Chicago Community Trust. Andrea will be joined by speakers John Rogers, Jr. (LGC Fellow since 1985), chairman, co-CEO and chief investment officer of Ariel Investments, and Derek Douglas (LGC Fellow since 2013), president of the Civic Committee and Commercial Club of Chicago.
The event will begin at 8:00 a.m. with a networking reception and continental breakfast. All attendees must arrive by 8:50 a.m. and bring a valid government ID to complete the security check-in process before the program starts. The program will start promptly at 9:00 a.m. and conclude with additional time for networking.
